Lisle Lane field

Sitting on the northern outcrop of Kimmeridge Clay, Lisle Lane field has been used for grazing for many years.

Natural springs used to be common in this area. Formed where the porous Greensand cap rests on the impervious Kimmeridge clay, the water comes up to the surface as a 'spring line'. Over time many of the springs have been piped or have dried up. Watercress beds were developed along the spring line and at the bottom of this meadow, adjacent to Springhead Lane, fed by the springs and extending down towards the river.

In early summer a dazzling display of buttercups can be seen throughout the meadow.
